“Then the Grinch
thought of something he hadn't before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't
come from a store. What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!”
― Dr. Seuss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
You gotta love Dr.
Seuss. There is just so much wisdom to
be had in the words he wrote. This
particular quote is one of my favorites.
I know, it references “Christmas” and in many circles I guess that is a
bit of a no, no. For me, it isn’t about “Christmas”,
per say, but rather the Season. There
is something absolutely magical about it that has nothing to do with purchases
or brightly gift-wrapped presents.
People are a little more patient, a bit kinder, more thoughtful. Everyone just seems to dig a little bit
deeper and for the final month of the year, the world feels like a slightly
better place.
December also
represents endless opportunity for one to find their spirit. There is no better time to reflect on the
year past then in the final 31 days of the year. What have you accomplished? What were your goals? Did you accomplish them? Were you the person you wanted to be? Did you do things that made you and others
proud? What opportunities are still left
to be recognized? By reflecting now, you
give yourself the chance to build on what you have already done and maybe do “a
little bit more”. The “little bit more”
is as unique as you are. For some maybe
it is as simple as holding a few extra doors open or saying “thank you”, for
others it could be a gesture intended to inspire or an act to lend a helping
hand. Whatever it is, the effort made
brings you one step closer to finding your spirit this season and taping into
its’ magic.
I definitely have a few things on my list. :) What's on yours?
'til next time...
